JOAN CAPILLA Y EL CACAO FELIZ

JOAN CAPILLA AND THE HAPPY CACAO

Joan Capilla Pepiol is one of those chefs who seem to cook exactly as they speak: without pretense.

Chef at L'Algadir del Delta, in Poblenou del Delta (Amposta, Tarragona), he has accumulated accolades such as the Green Michelin Star and the Repsol Sun, among others. But beyond the awards, what he truly conveys is a very approachable and honest way of understanding cuisine.

I met him during a EURO-TOQUES assembly in Castellón. We only had a few minutes together, at that moment when chefs go from table to table saying goodbye and thanking guests for their visit while desserts are being served.

Our conversation was brief, but one of those that stick with you.

He said something like:
"I loved the Cacao Feliz project, we'll have to collaborate."

As he smiled and shook my hand, I thought:
"He looks like he wants to collaborate."

I wasn't wrong.

Although our chocolate is more expensive than many of the products they usually use in cooking, due to the social nature of the project itself, he has reordered several times.

With the last order, I asked him to send us a photo of the result of combining his cuisine and Cacao Feliz.

And here it is.

I haven't yet tried his traditional Catalan cuisine based on local produce, but everyone agrees on one thing: it's spectacular.

Though honestly, I believe there should be awards not only for quality, but also for humor and sensitivity in creating art.

I'd give one to Ronaldinho.
And another, without a doubt, to Joan Capilla.

Moltes gràcies, Joan.
And thank you too for your Happy chocolate. 🍫
